Match Seven

Aus 21 - 6 SA

Australia defied the odds and denied the Springboks the chance of winning the Tri Nations this week. It was a thoroughly deserved victory, with the Wallabies dominating the second half, scoring two tries and over-powering the world champions in all departments. South Africa simply did not get a look in and were fortunate that the Australians were denied three other tries by fourth official.

The Australian victory will now lift not just their spirits but also those of New Zealand who are still in with a sniff of a chance in winning the series themselves. They take on the Springboks next week in Hamilton and will fancy their chances after it appears that the Springboks are tiring after their unbeaten run and were possibly suffering from being a little over-confident

South Africa coach, Peter De Villiers made just one enforced change to the his side’s starting line up that beat Australia 32-25 last week in Perth, with Odwa Ndungane coming in for the injured JP Pietersen on the wing. On the replacements bench, second row, Danie Rossouw comes in for the injured Andries Bekker.

The Springboks are still undefeated in this Tri Nations campaign, having played four and won four and know that a win in this match will more or less seal the 2009 Series. It is pointed out however that the ‘Boks’ have not won in Brisbane since 1971!
