Match Five

Australia 18 - 19 New Zealand

An epic match produced the wrong result for most Australian fans as New Zealand forced a victory following a pulsating second half performance. It was Australia who took the game to the All Blacks in the first half, and with four Matt Giteau penalties they held a 12-3 lead, but New Zealand in typical gutsy fashion refused to lie down and overpowered the Aussies in their second half comeback. The win puts the All Blacks in with at least a chance to retain the Tri Nations but they must hope that Australia can inflict damage on the Springboks in the Tri Nations Match Six due to take place in Perth next week.

Australia 18 Pens : Giteau 6 – New Zealand 19, Try: Nonu, Con: Carter, Pens: Carter 4
