Australia Tri Nations Rugby Union

Arguably one of the biggest names in International Rugby, Australia has long been the one team that every other nation wants to beat. The Wallabies enjoyed an era of great success during the 90's and early part of the new millennium, winning the Rugby World Cup twice in 1991 and 1999, back to back Tri Nations successes in 2000 and 2001 and defeating New Zealand in the Bledisloe Cup five years running between 1998 and 2002. However, in recent years things haven't been so successful with New Zealand's dominance overshadowing the Wallabies previous glories.

Having been knocked out of the 2007 Rugby World Cup at the Quarter Final stages to old foes England, Australia are sure to be looking towards rebuilding following the departure of Head Coach John Connolly and the international retirements of the influential and record breaking captain George Gregan and fly-half Stephen Larkham, both of whom should be dead-cert future inductees in to the International Rugby Hall of Fame.

As a new dawn arises on Australian rugby, players and fans alike are sure to be looking towards the 2009 Tri Nations Championship as being an opportunity to recapture the type of form shown in the early part of the decade, laying the foundations for the road back to Southern Hemisphere and International dominance.

Australia 2009 Tri Nations Form

Having gone down in Tri Nations Match One to New Zealand by 16-22, Australia acquitted themselves very well and will be considerably more confident when the two teams meet again in Tri Nations Match Five on 22 August in Perth.

That said they suffered a real mauling at the hands of the South Africans in Tri Nations Match Four and will need to bounce back quickly. Coach Robbie Deans has got his young side very well organised and is clearly building a side for the future. The Wallabies are currently 7/1 outsiders to win the 2009 Tri Nations in the Tri Nations Outright Betting odds.
